FIKRA, in the Arabic language, means an idea. FIKRA is a policy research institute focused on the social and economic issues relevant to Qatar and the Middle East and North Africa region (MENA).

It was established in 2011, driven by the need for policy research in Qatar and its neighboring countries. Its vision is " to be recognized as a leading policy think tank for Qatar and the MENA region".
FIKRA’s mission is “to initiate and develop insightful policy research for Qatar and the region. This is done through partnering with academic institutes, NGOs, public and private sector institutions, and leveraging with local and international talent".

"Think" - With a diverse team that includes a mix of academic and practitioners as well as international and local expertise, we have been working on a number of research grants. We are working in partnership with academic institutes, think tanks and the public and private sectors and these research grants, which are funded by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), are within the following areas:

1 . Nationalization of the labor force
2 . Human resources in the health sector
3 . Renewable energy and energy       efficiency policies
4 . Sustainable urban energy and       transportation systems
5 . Rule of Law

"Do" - In terms of the "Do" aspect of FIKRA, we disseminate our research findings through special reports to the policy makers across the private and public sectors. We also engage in organizing events (Policy Majlis, forums, conferences, etc.) that further helps to diffuse knowledge and give visibility and credibility to our research in Qatar and the region.
